Come take a lesson in our Super Decathlon. Starting at $100 for a 30 minute lesson we tailor the course around your needs. Aerobatics gets a bad rap for being “risky”, but as in any type of flying that is so if the pilot is untrained or pushes the envelope. All maneuvers are done above 4000 ft. and well within the limitations of both the plane and the pilot. We can teach you confidence to control the aircraft safely in any attitude, as well as learning the correct control inputs if in an upset. We also teach you the basic aerobatic maneuvers, such as the loop, roll, hammerhead, Cuban 8 and spin.

Ronnie Mueller, longtime member and first year college student, has been patiently waiting for a day that the temperature wasn’t zero, high winds or low clouds to take his private pilot check ride. Hopefully he will get a good day soon!..... If you hit a coyote with the C-152, who would win? Ask Charlie, and he can tell you. The plane didn’t have a scratch, but the coyote wasn’t so lucky. I think we ought to paint a little coyote picture on the tail of the C-152….. Gene’s simulator business is going very well. Charlie has already taken a few students over to experience using a GPS, saying that this new simulator does everything but move. It even gave one student motion sickness! See the article on the back and go try it out!... I am looking for new ideas for our next Blue Sky Trip. Lake Lawn and then down the lakeshore was one that we may do when the weather gets a little warmer. Email me some of your ideas….. The yellow 172, N24153 will be taken off of leaseback, possibly replacing it in the near future.….. I plan to do a little cosmetic surgery on the C152, so look for some new carpet and windshield…. We were hooked up to city water not long ago, so excuse the mess out front which will be fixed-up soon as the weather allows.

Trip to Schaumburg

Matt and Jana’s Decathlon over a          snow-covered prairie

A band of snow just south of Morris threatened to once again cancel our flying trip to Pilot Pete’s Restaurant in Schaumburg on Jan. 30th. A few optimistic pilots waited that morning to see if we would get a chance to go, and by noon we decided to go for it. Denny Thompson’s C- 182, Matt and Jana’s Decathlon, Bill Shain’s Atlantis, Blue Sky’s C- 172 and Pete DeCraene’s RV-7A full of hungry people trekked north 35 miles to Schaumburg Airport. We discovered that 1) Schaumburg Airport blends very well with landscape and 2) the restaurant believes in super-sizing; big plates and lots of food.

We had a great time even though we chose not to fly down the lakeshore. We will save that for a sunny day. Watch the newsletter for our next trip!
