Blue Sky Aero Member News

The trip planned for last month to Rantoul was not to be…30 knot winds put a damper on the day, but we are still planning to go!  With the weather changing by the minute this time of year, we will determine the day of the trip sort of spur-of-the-moment. If you would like to be on the call list for our next trip, please call or email Cindy.  Some have expressed interest in flying down the lakeshore again to include a stop at Schaumburg Airport for a lunch at Pilot Pete’s. Again, if you are interested let me know……Brian Drow joined Blue Sky last month, an A&P to assist Jack. He grew up in Florida, and to get him up here I promised the weather wasn’t much different than home….Are you looking to build some flight time, or just want to get in the air and be able to share the cost with someone else? According to FAA regulations, both the pilot under the hood for simulated instrument time and the safety pilot may log PIC, as long as the safety pilot understands he/she is equally responsible for the safety of the flight…..Pretty soon we will be plugging in to heat the engines, and the planes will be switching to 65W Aeroshell oil (the Arrow will remain on Phillips 20W50).  Please remember to let the oil temp warm up before attempting a run up or take-off….Some have asked if we provide aerobatic training in the cold weather. Yes, but if the weather is below 20 degrees aloft we do have some restrictions, such as a lower G-limit and rapid altitude changes due to engine cooling…. A deadly virus struck Blue Sky. My Gateway computer, the victim of a Microsoft hater, required reformatting and some data was lost, including email address. Please send me an email so that I may add you to the newsletter list!

Those Darn Gas prices!

Morris is still one of the cheapest around as far as gas prices go, but they are steadily on the rise.  We began the year at $2.35 and the aircraft rates did go up when the gas went to $2.55 in September.  Now at $2.65 as of mid-October, I will hold the rates constant unless there is another increase. To help keep rental costs down, please lean in cruise and shop for the best rate if fueling up elsewhere. We are all in this together J

Fly fun, Fly safe……………..
